Attaining academic qualifications is not the sole route to success, as articulated by businessman Taniela Rararua. This empowering message is particularly aimed at high school dropouts and young individuals still searching for their place in society. Taniela advocates for recognizing and harnessing unique talents and skills that he believes are inherently bestowed upon every person by God. He emphasizes that with self-discipline, individuals can turn their gifts into beneficial endeavors for themselves and their communities.
Originating from Rakiraki in Kadavu, Taniela has risen as a self-made entrepreneur in the field of coffin design and manufacturing, operating his business from his home in Kalokolevu Village, Rewa, strategically located along the busy Queen’s Highway.
Despite facing significant hardships, including the challenges of growing up in a single-parent household after his father left, Taniela remained steadfast in his faith and determination. Dropping out of high school just before his external exams to support his unemployed mother was a painful choice he had to make. He contributed to the household by collecting shellfish and mussels, showcasing his resilience and commitment to family.
His educational journey took a turn when he was admitted to Montfort Boys Town, a vocational training institute by the Catholic Church in Fiji, where he learned crucial life skills that shaped his future work ethic. Gratified by his experiences at Montfort, he carries the values taught there as guiding principles in his life.
After getting married, Taniela initially worked for a furniture company before joining the Fiji Corrections Service, where he eventually oversaw inmates in carpentry training. It was during this time that he envisioned establishing his own coffin manufacturing business, a plan that took shape over several years.
Starting his enterprise from the ground up, Taniela manually crafted his first funeral casket using basic hand tools. His dedication paid off, as he subsequently reinvested and expanded his business, now including vehicles for transporting funeral caskets. He has passed on his knowledge to his children, preparing them for future roles in the family business.
Taniela’s choice of coffin manufacturing stems from a belief that there will always be a demand, as life and death are constant realities. His aim is to provide quality service to families during their most challenging times with compassion and understanding. He encourages young people to pursue their passions while remaining anchored in their faith.
Taniela Rararua’s journey exemplifies the notion that success can be achieved through hard work, determination, and a commitment to serving others, regardless of traditional educational pathways. His story signifies hope and resilience, demonstrating that one can rise above adversity with the right mindset and support.
This article not only highlights Taniela’s inspiring life but also serves as a reminder of the diverse ways individuals can achieve success and fulfill their purpose in life, encouraging others to explore their unique paths.
