Ana Yabakivou, an inspiring 18-year-old who initially dropped out of school, has successfully graduated with a Certificate IV in Organic Agriculture. This achievement was recognized alongside 33 fellow students at a graduation ceremony held at the Ministry of Youth’s Naleba Training Centre in Labasa.

Despite her earlier setback of failing the Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination, Yabakivou embraced the opportunity to re-enroll at Naleba this year. With hopes of furthering her education, she plans to enroll at either the Fiji National University Koronivia campus or the University of the South Pacific next year to pursue her passion for agriculture.

Yabakivou shared her unwavering determination to secure a stable job to support her family financially. “I have a simple dream: to get a job and look after my family, meeting their financial needs,” she expressed. To celebrate her graduation, she invited her grandmother, Anasimeci Solokai, to the ceremony, highlighting the essential role her family played in her success.

Solokai, visibly emotional at her granddaughter’s achievement, expressed her confidence that Yabakivou would excel in her future endeavors. “Nothing is impossible if a student has family support and the determination to achieve their goals,” she stated.

Reflecting on her journey, Yabakivou noted the challenges of living away from home in the centre’s girls’ dormitory, which initially made her feel isolated. However, her perseverance led her to successfully complete her program. She inspired other students facing challenges by encouraging them to not lose hope, emphasizing that many opportunities exist to progress in life.

In summary, Ana Yabakivou’s story is a testament to resilience and the power of support from family and educators. Her commitment to her goals serves as a motivational example for others struggling with their studies, showing that determination and support can help overcome obstacles.
