Ana Yabakivou, an 18-year-old former Year 12 student, has shown incredible perseverance by graduating with a Certificate IV in Organic Agriculture, despite facing challenges during her academic journey. Joined by 33 other graduates, she celebrated her achievement at the Ministry of Youth’s Naleba Training Centre in Labasa.

After failing the Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination (FY12CE), Ms. Yabakivou was determined not to let this setback define her. She secured a spot at the Naleba Training Centre, where she focused on her studies and aimed to advance in the agricultural field. Looking towards the future, she plans to enroll at Fiji National University in Koronivia or the University of the South Pacific to further her education in agriculture.

Her dream is simple yet profound—Ms. Yabakivou hopes to gain employment to support her family financially. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to her family and particularly her grandmother, who has been her source of support throughout her educational journey. Ms. Yabakivou even invited her grandmother, Anasimeci Solokai, to the graduation ceremony, where Ms. Solokai expressed immense pride and faith in her granddaughter’s potential.

Reflecting on her experience at the Naleba Training Centre, Ms. Yabakivou shared the challenges she faced while adjusting to dormitory life away from her family. She recalled moments of loneliness but ultimately overcame these obstacles to succeed.
