Eighteen-year-old Ana Yabakivou has demonstrated exceptional perseverance by graduating with a Certificate IV in Organic Agriculture, despite facing significant challenges along her educational journey. After experiencing a setback when she did not pass the Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination (FY12CE) last year, Ana was fortunate to enroll at the Naleba Training Centre in Labasa, where she joined 33 other graduates.

Ana plans to continue her studies in agriculture at either the Fiji National University Koronivia campus or the University of the South Pacific next year. She remains resolute in her pursuit of a rewarding career, driven by her aspiration to support her family financially.

In a heartfelt gesture, Ana invited her grandmother, Anasimeci Solokai, to the graduation ceremony, recognizing the pivotal role her family played in her success. Anasimeci expressed immense pride, stating that nothing is impossible with family support and determination.

Though Ana faced difficulties adjusting to life away from home at the training centre’s girls’ dormitory, she overcame feelings of isolation and discomfort. She has a powerful message for other students struggling with their own challenges: “Do not give up, because there are plenty of opportunities to climb up in life.”

This inspiring story reflects the importance of resilience and community support in achieving personal goals. It serves as a reminder that setbacks can lead to new beginnings, and with determination, anyone can turn their dreams into reality.

Overall, Ana’s determination and the support from her family and mentors illustrate a hopeful narrative about overcoming obstacles and pursuing one’s goals, which can inspire many others facing similar challenges.
