From Dreams to the Field: One Player’s Gratitude and Journey

Rusila Camaibure expresses deep gratitude for her parents’ sacrifices which have enabled her to pursue her academic and athletic aspirations. The 20-year-old player began her rugby career with the Kulawai rugby league team in Melbourne, where she joined a group predominantly composed of iTaukei players participating in the Bula Cup competition.

Camaibure, though primarily a rugby union player, has gained an appreciation for rugby league and has recently been selected for the Victorian state team. Originating from Delaidamanu Village in Naitasiri, with maternal roots in Visoqo, Macuata, she identifies as a utility player capable of taking on positions in both the wing and second row.

Her education journey began at Natoaika District School and she completed her secondary education at Muaniweni College. Currently, Camaibure is enrolled at Yorke Institute in Melbourne, Australia.

Upon receiving an email from the Bulikula team, she initially thought it might be a scam. However, after responding, she received a call from coach Joe Rabele confirming her selection. Camaibure reveals that her aim is to qualify for the Women’s Rugby League World Cup and admits to feeling nervous as this marks her first opportunity to represent her national team, family, and province.

Despite her excitement, she acknowledges the challenges of being away from her parents. She reflects on the sacrifices she has made to engage in rugby while remaining committed to her education, which was the reason for her move to Melbourne. Her parents continually encourage her to focus on her Christian faith as she navigates her journey in Australia.

Camaibure recognizes the path to becoming a successful rugby league player is demanding but feels grateful for the support and guidance from her parents. She hopes to inspire other young people, assuring them that their sacrifices will ultimately yield rewards.
