Fariya Khan recently celebrated a significant achievement as she became the first in her family to earn a degree in journalism, a milestone she credits to divine assistance and the unwavering support of her family. She graduated from the University of the South Pacific in September, fulfilling a long-held dream.
Ms. Khan grew up emphasizing strong moral principles and personal ethics, integral values that shaped her journey. She shared that her great-grandfather was the son of an indentured laborer who found success as a pioneer in the bus industry and became a renowned heavyweight boxing champion in Fiji.
Currently residing in the city, Ms. Khan maintains a special bond with her family’s farm in Sabeto, where she often spent her weekends riding horses as a child. This experience, she noted, was invaluable, fostering confidence and independence within her.
From a young age, Ms. Khan witnessed her parents’ hard work, particularly her mother, who balanced a demanding job with family responsibilities. Her mother’s teachings about independence and the importance of education greatly influenced Ms. Khan’s character and aspirations.
Initially aspiring to become a lawyer, Ms. Khan shifted her focus to journalism—a decision she has never regretted. She believes that journalists play a crucial role in educating the public on significant issues through factual reporting and opinion pieces.
During her studies, Ms. Khan faced numerous challenges but managed to find a balance that made her university experience enjoyable. Upon graduating after three years of dedication, she expressed her gratitude for the support from her family and friends, while also acknowledging the divine guidance that helped her achieve this milestone.
In her leisure time, Ms. Khan enjoys reading, baking, visiting her farmhouse, and horse riding. She also finds joy in exploring TikTok for interesting content related to organization, budgeting, and makeup.
She encourages the younger generation with the adage that “time and tide wait for no man,” urging them to proactively pursue their goals and maintain a strong spiritual connection. Ms. Khan emphasizes the importance of respecting one’s parents, a principle rooted in her faith.
