Waisale Taufa Tavatuilagi has overcome significant challenges, including a battle with depression, to achieve his dream of earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Finance from the University of the South Pacific. Graduating on Friday, Mr. Tavatuilagi expressed that this accomplishment was a long-time goal.
A decade ago, he aspired to become a lawyer, a dream that did not come to fruition. However, he shifted his focus and decided to pursue a career as a bank officer, successfully realizing this ambition. He emphasized that developing a positive mindset was pivotal in his journey, highlighting the importance of surrounding himself with supportive individuals.
“Having the right attitude and a strong support system from my family was crucial,” he noted. Mr. Tavatuilagi was determined to overcome his depression and actively worked on changing his perspective towards life.
Originally from Nabouciwa, Nakelo, in Tailevu, with maternal ties to Nasaqalau, Lakeba, Lau, the 33-year-old is committed to becoming the best version of himself whenever opportunities arise. He recognized depression as a formidable obstacle during his pursuit of education.
“It was the support of my peers who had faith in me that kept me going, despite the struggles and failures I faced,” he remarked. “I am grateful for the gift of family and friendship, and I believe that God was central to my journey.”
