From Depression to Graduation: A Journey of Resilience and Hope

Waisale Taufa Tavatuilagi recently graduated from the University of the South Pacific, overcoming depression as he achieved his long-held dream of earning a degree. A decade ago, he aspired to become a lawyer, but when that goal did not come to fruition, he shifted his focus towards becoming a bank officer and joining the university’s alumni.

Mr. Tavatuilagi emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive mindset to navigate his challenges. He surrounded himself with supportive individuals and built a strong network to help him through difficult times. “With the right attitude and strong support from my family, I was able to progress on my journey,” he said.

Originally hailing from Nabouciwa, Nakelo, in Tailevu, Mr. Tavatuilagi is committed to becoming the best version of himself, taking every opportunity that comes his way. He described depression as a significant obstacle he faced while pursuing his degree. “I am grateful for the friends who believed in me and encouraged me to persevere despite the struggles I encountered,” he noted.

Ultimately, he emphasized the central role of faith in his life, expressing gratitude for the support from family and friends during his journey.
