Waisale Taufa Tavatuilagi has overcome significant challenges, including battling depression, to achieve his educational goals. After graduating from the University of the South Pacific, Mr. Tavatuilagi expressed that earning his degree was a long-cherished dream.
A decade ago, Mr. Tavatuilagi aspired to become a lawyer, a goal that did not come to fruition. Instead, he shifted his focus toward a new ambition of becoming a bank officer and joining the USP alumni network. With determination, he achieved this long-desired milestone.
Mr. Tavatuilagi emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive mindset and associating with supportive individuals along his journey. “Surrounding myself with quality people and establishing a strong support network were essential,” he stated. He acknowledged that having a supportive family played a critical role in his progress.
The 33-year-old, originally from Nabouciwa, Nakelo in Tailevu, reflected on how his battle with depression was one of the toughest challenges he faced while pursuing his degree. He credited his peers, who believed in him and encouraged him to persevere despite the difficulties he encountered.
“I am thankful to God for being the center of my journey. I cherish the gift of family and friendship,” Mr. Tavatuilagi concluded, standing firm in his commitment to becoming the best version of himself when presented with opportunities.
