From Challenges to Triumph: Meet the Cadet Star of Raiwaqa

Ana Seru, a 14-year-old student from Naivucini, Naitasiri, has made headlines after being named the top female cadet at the John Wesley College passing-out parade held at Albert Park, Suva. Growing up in the busy community of Raiwaqa, which is known for various social challenges, Ana’s journey has been shaped by her determination to succeed academically.

During the intensive week-long cadet training, Ana faced the tough, humid conditions while mastering the intricacies of marching, which she found to be quite a challenge. Reflecting on her background, she emphasized the importance of education in transforming her life.

“I knew my upbringing was not ideal, but I strived for excellence every time I stepped into the classroom,” she stated. “The only way to improve my life is through education.”

Ana also shared insights on managing peer pressure, crediting her family for instilling in her the importance of making sound decisions. She dedicated her award to her siblings and father, who were present at the event.

As the shy member of her family, Ana expressed her hope that her achievement would motivate her younger siblings to pursue their education and aspirations. “My younger siblings, who are in primary school, want to join secondary school and participate in cadet training after witnessing my performance.”
