Sera Bolatini is making noteworthy strides in her rugby career, now training with the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s squad. Originally from Ovalau, Bolatini participated in a training session held at Bidesi Park in Laucala Bay, Suva, alongside her fellow players.
Her journey in sports began with rugby and has seen her expand her talents into boxing, as well as play for several rugby clubs, culminating in her recent time with the Fijian Drua Women. Bolatini expressed her long-standing dream of joining the rugby 7s scene, which has now been realized with her inclusion in the Fijiana 7s training squad.
Reflecting on her early passion for the sport, she shared, “I had always played rugby from a very young age. My friends played it, and as I got to be around them more, I had grown to like it.” Her commitment to rugby solidified as she played for the Assemblies of God High School women’s rugby team in 2019 and the Namosi rugby team in 2020.
Continuing her progression, Bolatini joined the Marist Women’s rugby club and then the Fijian Drua in 2023, paving the way to her current role with the Fijiana 7s. Bolatini’s goal now is to earn a place on the final team that will represent Fiji in the upcoming World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series. She emphasizes the importance of hard work and maintaining a positive outlook as key components for achieving her aspirations in the sport.
