Michael Prasad, an avid sports enthusiast from Suva, has turned his passion for fitness into a thriving business by opening Evolve Fitness Gym on Raojibhai Patel Street. At 34 years old, Prasad made the bold decision to leave his position at Bank South Pacific (BSP) in 2019 to pursue a career in fitness, supported by his wife, Courtney Cheer, and their two sons.
Before establishing his gym three weeks ago, Prasad began his journey in the fitness industry at Metro Gym in Suva, where he assisted others in their training. He soon realized there was a demand for more personalized training experiences, prompting him to open a small studio, where he trained between 300 to 400 clients over four to five years. This experience highlighted the need for a centrally located gym that offered exclusive and premium fitness solutions.
Evolve Fitness Gym caters to small groups of up to eight people, allowing trainers to provide focused attention and guidance. The gym features state-of-the-art equipment, including a belt squat, hip thrust, and a pendulum squat machine, which are not commonly found in other fitness centers in Fiji.
Mr. Prasad’s long-term vision includes expanding his class offerings to include beginner courses and alternative fitness options such as yoga. Evolve Fitness Gym aims to foster a supportive community of fitness enthusiasts, and members can choose from various pricing packages, including monthly and longer-term memberships.
Emphasizing a balanced lifestyle, Prasad’s mantra, “live your fullest,” encourages individuals to combine fitness with enjoyment, implying that occasional indulgences in food and drink are permissible as long as workouts are maintained. He believes that reducing stress is essential for overall well-being, and he hopes to incorporate corporate partnerships to reach more individuals seeking a holistic approach to health.
This story of entrepreneurial spirit and community focus showcases the growing fitness culture in Fiji, highlighting the importance of accessible wellness solutions as people become increasingly health-conscious. It represents a hopeful step towards a healthier lifestyle for many in Suva, bringing a fresh and inclusive approach to fitness.
