The Kumar family in Nabua is celebrating their first Diwali in their new home, a joyous occasion that marks a significant turning point in their lives after spending years living in bamboo structures.

Previously residing in Nasarawaqa, Vanua Levu, the family has recently acquired their dream house on Sukanaivalu Road in Nabua, making this festive season all the more meaningful for them. Their transition from bamboo walls to a solid concrete structure symbolizes resilience and hope.

Ravinesh Kumar expressed the profound significance of their new home, describing it as more than just a physical space, but rather a treasured gift that represents their hard work and perseverance. “This home is our Diwali gift. We never thought this day would come, where we could celebrate Diwali in our very own concrete home,” he remarked, reflecting his deep appreciation for this milestone.

The Kumar family warmly adorned their new residence with diyas and rangoli, brightening Sukanaivalu Road and offering a beacon of hope and new beginnings to the community, which is primarily iTaukei. “This is our first Diwali in our new home, and we’re really excited about it. I wish everyone a happy Diwali, and may this Diwali bring everyone joy, happiness, and good health,” said Sheela Kumar in celebration of the occasion.

As they prepare for a lively Diwali celebration, the family anticipates the arrival of friends and new neighbors. Ravinesh emphasized the festival’s essence, stating, “This Diwali is all about the victory of light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance.”

Sweta Kapoor, side by side with the festivities, reminisces about her brothers who have moved abroad, reflecting on the previous year’s celebration. “This Diwali I’m missing my brothers, who have migrated overseas; last year we celebrated Diwali together,” she shared.

The Kumar family’s journey from humble beginnings shines brightly, serving as an inspiration that no matter where you start, there are always brighter days ahead.

This heartwarming story resonates with the spirit of Diwali, a festival that signifies new beginnings, community bonding, and hope for a prosperous future. The Kumar family’s experience underscores the importance of resilience and the joy that can arise from celebrating significant milestones with loved ones and the community.
