Growing up in a culinary-centered family not only satisfied Josese Cagica’s palate but also motivated him to pursue a culinary education and eventually launch his own bakery.
At the recent Miss Hibiscus Festival, Mr. Cagica took the opportunity to hire young people from Nadera, giving them a chance to earn a good income. He described showcasing his business at the festival as a novel experience, despite encountering challenges in establishing his brand.
“Participating in the Miss Hibiscus Festival is a unique chance for me, especially as I introduce new pastries that could resonate well with the community,” he stated.
Mr. Cagica believes that events like the Hibiscus Festival offer entrepreneurs like himself the opportunity to enhance their presence in the business sector.
In addition to focusing on building his brand, known as ‘The Cake Lab,’ he is dedicated to supporting the youth of Nadera by providing them with employment opportunities. Motivated by the festival’s communal spirit, his aim is to give back to the community while enhancing both his living standards and those of the young individuals he engages with. He credits the encouragement from his parents, family, and friends as a significant source of support in his journey.
“I now receive orders locally as well as from Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and Africa,” he shared.
Despite the difficulties he has faced, Mr. Cagica views this phase of his life as a blessing rather than a setback, successfully managing to keep his business afloat.
