Nineteen-year-old Jordan Miller, who visited Fiji with the Australian schoolboys in 2022, has made a remarkable return to the island as a member of the Vodafone Fiji Bati team. This moment marks a significant milestone in his rugby league career.
Born and raised in Australia, Miller has Fijian roots through his father from Savusavu. He is excited to train alongside senior players and National Rugby League (NRL) stars who he admired growing up, including Tui Kamikamica of the Storm, Maika Sivo, and Viliame Kikau.
Miller expressed his gratitude to coach Waisake Kativerata for the opportunity to make his debut with the Bati, starting from the bench in the match. “I’ve always wanted to play for Fiji,” he stated, noting that training with such prominent athletes feels surreal at his young age. “It’s pretty crazy that I’m training with them. I didn’t think it would come this early, but I’m grateful for the opportunity to come here. It means a lot,” he added.
Reflecting on his experience during the past week, Miller highlighted the positive team culture. “Everything’s good – we have devotion twice a day. There’s a lot of energy, so the camp’s never down; it’s a fun camp to be in.”
Earlier this year, Miller signed a three-year contract with the Tigers and made his NRL debut in Round 15 against the Titans, contributing to the team’s 18-10 victory. He was also recognized for his talent at the Wests Magpies Harold Matthews Cup U17s Junior Representative Award night in September 2022, where he was honored as the player’s player and best and fairest player.
