Rewa football midfielder Tevita Waranaivalu has honored his family and teammates by dedicating his recent award to them, acknowledging their unwavering support during challenging moments.
Waranaivalu made history as the first Fiji footballer to receive the inaugural Digicel Fiji Premier League Golden Ball Award at the Fiji Football Association’s award ceremony held at the Sugar Cane Growers Building in Lautoka on Friday night.
The Naisomua, Tailevu native reflected on the difficulties he faced over the past two seasons, particularly dealing with injuries and weight issues.
“I have experienced a lot,” he stated. “There have been many ups and downs, especially after getting injured at the start of the season. Nevertheless, I pushed myself to finish the season.”
He continued, “There were moments I found myself on the bench and only played for two to three minutes, but I never lost hope. I kept focusing on my diet because I was overweight.”
The national team player emphasized the consistent support from his family throughout his career. He said, “They have always been there for me, regardless of where I play. This award is also a testament to the entire team. Without them, I wouldn’t have achieved this. We have developed a lot together.”
He expressed his gratitude for the team’s spirit and resilience, stating that despite facing financial challenges and personal struggles, they remained united. Waranaivalu dedicated the award to his two sons, Richard and King David.
Earlier this month, Waranaivalu also received the Player of the Tournament award at the 2024 Police Inter Formation Championship held in Nausori.
