From Adversity to Achievement: Meet the Top Female Cadet of John Wesley College

Ana Seru, a Year Nine student, has emerged as the top female cadet during the John Wesley College passing-out parade held at Albert Park, Suva. Growing up in the socially challenging environment of Raiwaqa, Ana reflected on her experiences and the significant impact they had on her life.

Throughout the one-week cadet training, Ana faced difficulties due to the humid climate while mastering marching techniques. The 14-year-old acknowledged that her upbringing was far from ideal but emphasized her commitment to striving for excellence in her education. “I had no other choice; the only way to improve my life is through education,” she stated.

Originating from Naivucini, Naitasiri, Ana credits her ability to make sound decisions as a key factor in managing peer pressure, a lesson instilled in her by her family. She believes that making positive choices is essential for achieving favorable outcomes.

Ana dedicated her achievement to her father and siblings, who were present at the ceremony. As the more introverted member of her family, she expressed hope that her recognition would inspire her younger siblings to pursue their goals. She noted that her primary school siblings are now motivated to join secondary school and participate in cadet training after witnessing her success.
