Ana Seru, a Year Nine student, has earned the title of top female cadet during the passing-out parade at John Wesley College, held at Albert Park, Suva. Growing up in the Raiwaqa area, which is known for its social challenges, has significantly shaped her perseverance and dedication.
During her week-long cadet training, Ana faced the challenges of humid conditions while learning various marching techniques. The 14-year-old acknowledged her difficult upbringing but emphasized her commitment to excellence in education. “I knew my upbringing was not ideal, but I strived for excellence every time I stepped into the classroom,” she said, highlighting her belief that education is the key to improving her life.
Originally from Naivucini, Naitasiri, Ana spoke about the importance of making sound decisions, especially in the face of peer pressure, a lesson she learned from her family. “Making good choices leads to positive outcomes,” she stated.
Ana dedicated her achievement to her siblings and her father, who was present at the event. As the family introvert, she hopes that her success will inspire her younger siblings to aim high. “My younger siblings, who are in primary school, want to join secondary school and participate in cadet training after witnessing my performance,” she shared.
