Fraudsters Face Court for Deceptive Financial Gains

Two men are set to appear in the Nasinu Magistrates Court today, facing charges of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception, as presented by the Fiji Police Mpaisa Task Force.

In the first case, a 36-year-old man from Wailea, Vatuwaqa, is accused of deceiving a victim on May 21, 2023. He allegedly claimed to have mistakenly sent her a One Time Pin (OTP) and requested that she send it back to him. After receiving the OTP, he purportedly transferred $447.00 from the victim’s account for his own use.

In a separate incident, another 36-year-old man from Koronivia allegedly misappropriated $190 from a victim on November 17, 2023. The investigation suggests that the victim responded to a Facebook advertisement for a car hire service, leading her to send the deposit to the advertised number. The suspect is accused of failing to provide the promised service after using the deposited funds.

Both individuals will be presented in court today.
