An appeal has been filed against the decision by the Registrar of Political Parties to deregister a former ruling party.
It has been reliably informed that the appeal was lodged over the weekend.
The deadline for the appeal was Sunday, 14th July 2024.
A decision on the appeal is expected within 21 days.
The Registrar of Political Parties, Ana Mataiciwa, deregistered the party on 1st July 2024 in accordance with section 12(4) of the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding & Disclosures) Act, 2013.
The party was instructed to amend its Constitution to include provisions required under Schedule 2 of the Act and was given a deadline until 28th June to make the necessary changes.
As the party did not comply with the requirement, it was deregistered effective from 1st July and given 14 days to appeal.
