A former police officer accused of raping a 26-year-old woman at the Valelevu Police Station single men’s barracks is set to have a trial date established in the next court session. The defendant appeared before Justice Dane Tuiqereqere in the High Court in Suva facing a charge of rape.

During the court proceedings, DPP prosecutor Simone Seruvatu informed the court that while the pre-trial conference has been finalized, it has not yet been officially filed and served. He noted that the State and defense did not meet as planned for the conference; however, they did come together to finalize the proposed agreed facts and pre-trial checklist.

Seruvatu requested a new date for the pre-trial conference, which Justice Tuiqereqere approved, allowing two weeks for the prosecution to prepare. The accused’s bail was extended, and the case has been adjourned until October 15.
