Former LA Galaxy Star Returns to Fiji to Inspire Future Football Talent

Former LA Galaxy player Israel Sesay has returned to Fiji as part of an international development initiative aimed at nurturing young football talent. This program, organized by Riyaz Ali, who has led the International Youth Football Academy (IYFA) for the past eight years, invites professional players from the United States to conduct training sessions in Fiji.

Sesay gained recognition as one of the youngest recruits for LA Galaxy, having played alongside famous footballer David Beckham. He will spend two weeks in Fiji, focusing on enhancing the techniques and tactics of young players.

Ali shared that his connection with Sesay was established during the latter’s visit to Fiji in 2013, and their mutual commitment to football development has made this collaboration possible. They aim to identify local talent and provide pathways for these players to advance onto the international stage.

“When Ali asked me to come and help out with the kids, it was a no-brainer for me. I love doing what I do because I’m trying to pass on my knowledge, what I’ve learned playing professionally and from all these big coaches, and help these kids grow,” Sesay expressed.

With Sesay’s expertise, the initiative seeks to enhance the skills of Fijian youth, potentially opening doors for them to pursue careers in professional football.
