Former LA Galaxy player Israel Sesay has returned to Fiji as part of an international development initiative aimed at fostering young football talent. The program, set up by Riyaz Ali, who has been leading the International Youth Football Academy (IYFA) for the past eight years, brings professional players from the United States to conduct training sessions in Fiji.
Sesay, recognized as one of the youngest athletes ever signed by LA Galaxy and a former teammate of football legend David Beckham, will spend two weeks in Fiji, where he will focus on enhancing the skills and tactics of young players.
Ali remarked that he and Sesay first met during Sesay’s trip to Fiji in 2013, and their mutual commitment to football development has culminated in this partnership. They aim to identify local talent and create opportunities for these young players to progress to the international arena.
“When Ali asked me to come and help out with the kids, it was a no-brainer for me. I love doing what I do because I’m trying to pass on my knowledge, what I’ve learned playing professionally and from all these big coaches, and help these kids grow,” Sesay commented.
Through Sesay’s guidance, the program aspires to enhance the abilities of Fijian youth, potentially opening doors for them to embark on professional football careers.
