Former FijiFirst Party Members Appeal Decision: What’s Next?

An appeal against the deregistration of the FijiFirst party has been lodged with the Electoral Commission (EC), as confirmed last night.

The deadline for former party members to file this appeal was yesterday.

The party was deregistered by the Registrar of Political Parties, Ana Mataiciwa, on July 1. Those affected by this decision had 15 days to raise an appeal with the EC.

Two sources within the group, who have not shown support for the Coalition Government, confirmed that the appeal has been submitted.

“Please get the details from the Electoral Commission. We don’t want to jeopardize the application process,” stated a former party member.

EC chairperson Barbara Malimali declined to comment on the issue.

The decision by the Electoral Commission will be final and binding, and not subject to challenge in any court.
