The family of Eparama Dremoka, a late Under-16 rugby player from Marist Brothers High School, has opted for forgiveness following the discovery of his grave, which was found burnt last Friday. The Dremoka family had recently buried their son in June when a viral post surfaced on social media, displaying images of the damaged grave at Lovonilase Cemetery in Walu Bay, Suva, along with charred flowers.
In an emotional response to the incident, Eparama’s father, Kaminieli Dremoka, shared that the family has chosen not to pursue any complaints about the situation. “I can’t say anything because I don’t know anything. Pursuing this would bring more hurt to us as his parents, so we have talked about it as a couple and have chosen to forgive,” he commented.
Acknowledging the possibility of animosity towards his son, Mr. Dremoka stated, “We were in Nadi when we saw the pictures posted on the Marist Brother’s page. I couldn’t help but think of what my son would do in this situation. My son was full of positivity; this is the devil’s work to bring more anger and hatred among us.”
Mr. Dremoka expressed gratitude for the kindness shown by parents of the U16 team, who gathered on Saturday to clean his son’s grave. “When we came back on Saturday afternoon to check, the grave was like it was before,” he noted. He appreciated the ongoing support from the U16 boys and their families, who have stood by them since Eparama’s passing and throughout the funeral process.
