In a remarkable initiative to improve educational access for students in remote areas, the Fiji National University (FNU) outreach team has recently concluded a successful application drive in the Kadavu and Lomaiviti Groups.

The outreach effort has garnered positive responses, particularly from local educators. Semisi Caucau, a teacher at Koro High School, expressed appreciation for FNU’s commitment to supporting students despite the geographical challenges they face. “Your willingness to assist our students with their applications has made a profound impact, allowing them to pursue their aspirations with confidence,” Mr. Caucau remarked.

His sentiments underscore the significant role that FNU’s outreach programs play in transforming local communities. Across several schools, including Vunisea Secondary, Richmond High, and Levuka Public School, the FNU team conducted informative sessions aimed at Year 12 and Year 13 students. These sessions provided vital insights into the various academic programs available and guided students through the application process.

Vijayta Sharma, the acting manager of outreach, highlighted the enthusiasm among students, particularly noting how Year 13 students at Vunisea were eager to explore how FNU’s offerings aligned with their career aspirations. “The excitement was palpable as students interacted with our team, eager to consider their options for the upcoming academic year,” she stated.

This outreach campaign has not only fueled access to critical academic information but has also fortified the relationship between FNU and the communities it serves, reinforcing the university’s mission to empower students and support their educational journeys. At Gau Secondary School, students showed notable dedication by attending a Saturday session to meet FNU staff and complete their application forms.

The visit to Levuka Public School marked a significant highlight of the outreach effort as FNU representatives engaged with students, addressing their queries and providing guidance throughout the application process.

This initiative by FNU is a promising step towards fostering a culture of education and empowerment in Fiji’s remote regions, ensuring that students have the opportunity to achieve their academic dreams and contribute positively to their communities.

In summary, FNU’s outreach drive exemplifies a dedicated commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for students, demonstrating how proactive initiatives can have a lasting and positive impact.
