In a remarkable initiative aimed at improving educational access for students in remote regions, the Fiji National University (FNU) outreach team recently completed an application drive in the Kadavu and Lomaiviti Groups. This effort was met with appreciation from Semisi Caucau, a teacher at Koro High School, who commended FNU for its commitment to overcoming geographical barriers to education.

Caucau expressed his gratitude, stating that FNU’s assistance has significantly impacted students’ pursuit of their goals. He acknowledged the role of the university in prioritizing student futures and expressed hope for continued collaborations in the future. This reflection highlights the positive and transformative impact of FNU’s outreach programs on local communities.

The outreach campaign featured informative sessions at several schools, including Vunisea Secondary School, Richmond High School, and Levuka Public School, where FNU representatives engaged with Year 12 and Year 13 students. They provided insights into various academic programs and offered guidance on the application processes.

Vijayta Sharma, the acting manager of outreach, observed a high level of enthusiasm among students, particularly at Vunisea, where they actively engaged with FNU representatives to understand how the university’s programs could align with their career aspirations. She noted that the excitement and eagerness of the Year 13 students to explore their educational paths were palpable.

The outreach initiative not only broadened access to vital academic information but also strengthened the connection between FNU and the communities it serves, underlining the university’s dedication to empowering students and enhancing their educational journeys. At Gau Secondary School, students also demonstrated their commitment by dedicating their Saturday to meet FNU staff and complete application forms.

The final stop at Levuka Public School provided a meaningful conclusion to the campaign, with FNU team members addressing student inquiries and guiding them through the application process.

This effort by FNU serves as an inspiring example of how educational institutions can proactively support students in achieving their aspirations, particularly in underserved communities. The dedication shown by both the university and the students points to a hopeful future for education in Fiji, as expectations and opportunities continue to grow.
