FNU Open Day: Where Dreams Meet Opportunities

The Fiji National University’s Nasinu Campus was bustling last week as over a thousand prospective students attended the university’s open day. With participation from 45 schools, students were eager to learn about their future study options.

The event, themed “Dream it, Weave it, Achieve it,” served as a platform not only to showcase the university’s programs but also to inspire attendees to consider the opportunities available at FNU. Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba, the university’s vice-chancellor, emphasized that the open day was a chance for individuals to explore their educational pathways.

“Whether you’re thinking about your next steps in education or just curious, you’ll find loads of inspiration to turn your dreams into reality,” she remarked. The university also commenced accepting applications for Semester 1, 2025 during the open day, providing immediate provision offer letters to successful applicants.

Finau Joy Afeaki Batiweti, a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries student from the College of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (CAFF), expressed her enthusiasm for sharing insights with other students. She noted that many students associate the campus solely with agriculture, but the open day helped them realize the college also offers programs in fisheries and forestry.

“I always tell students to explore their options – when you come to the open day, ask the right questions about what we do and what job opportunities you can find through our programs,” she encouraged. “There are many job opportunities in fisheries, and I advise students to broaden their horizons beyond traditional white-collar jobs to see what other fields can offer.”

Epeli Cagialau, a Year 13 student from the Latter-Day Saints Church College, was also excited about the event. Currently studying carpentry and automotive engineering, he expressed interest in the various engines displayed at the engineering booth and engaged with university students who were apprentices at automotive companies.

“It’s a great experience to be here, especially learning about the different types of engines,” he said.

The two-day open day event in Nasinu attracted thousands of visitors, showcasing the university’s commitment to providing educational opportunities. FNU also held similar open days at its Naduna, Namaka, and Natabua campuses last week.
