FNU Open Day Draws Record Crowds: A Gateway to Future Opportunities

Over 20,000 individuals participated in the Fiji National University (FNU) Open Day held across four campuses, marking the highest attendance in the event’s history. The Open Day took place on October 3 and 4 at the Naduna, Namaka, Natabua, and Nasinu campuses, with the Nasinu campus alone attracting 10,000 visitors on the first day.

FNU Vice-Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba expressed gratitude to all those who played a role in making the event successful. “We had a wonderful turnout, with not just school students, but also families joining in, especially on the second day. It was great to see parents engaging with lecturers and students about future opportunities for their children,” she stated.

This year’s Open Day offered a platform for students and their families to explore the diverse academic programmes available at the university. The event included participation from eight special schools and two kindergartens, highlighting the increasing interest in early exposure to higher education.

“Parents and students had the chance to get firsthand insights into campus life and the various courses FNU offers,” Nabobo-Baba noted. “The strong turnout reflects the growing interest from schools and former students in advancing their education with us.”

For families like that of Jone Ravuikadavu, who attended the second day with his three young daughters, the event was particularly valuable. “Even though my children are still in primary school, this Open Day gave them early exposure to hands-on courses. They especially loved the live animal display at the College of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry booth,” Ravuikadavu shared.

With its broad range of activities and exhibits, the FNU Open Day catered to individuals of all ages and interests, ensuring that attendees left with a better understanding of their educational options.
