In an inspiring initiative aimed at improving education access for students in remote regions, the Fiji National University (FNU) outreach team recently wrapped up a successful application drive throughout the Kadavu and Lomaiviti Groups. This initiative showcases FNU’s commitment to making higher education accessible, even in the most geographical challenging areas.

Semisi Caucau, a teacher from Koro High School, expressed his heartfelt appreciation for FNU’s efforts, emphasizing how their support with student applications has significantly impacted these young individuals. He stated, “Your willingness to assist our students has opened doors for them to pursue their aspirations confidently.” Mr. Caucau’s remarks highlight the powerful role that outreach initiatives play in transforming communities and enhancing educational opportunities.

The outreach campaign included engaging sessions at several schools such as Vunisea Secondary School, Richmond High School, and Levuka Public School. During these sessions, FNU representatives interacted with Year 12 and 13 students, providing valuable insights into various academic programs and guiding them through the application process.

Vijayta Sharma, the acting manager of outreach, noted the enthusiasm shown by students, particularly at Vunisea, where they actively sought clarity on how FNU’s programs aligned with their career ambitions. The eagerness displayed by Year 13 students illustrated their determination to explore their options for the upcoming academic year.

This outreach effort not only facilitated access to crucial academic information but also solidified the relationship between FNU and the local communities it serves. It reaffirms the university’s dedication to empowering students and nurturing their educational pathways. At Gau Secondary School, Ms. Sharma commended Year 13 students who took the time on a Saturday to engage with FNU staff and complete their application forms, demonstrating their commitment to planning their futures.

The final event at Levuka Public School marked the culmination of the outreach campaign, where the FNU team was pleased to connect with students, addressing their inquiries, and providing assistance throughout the application process.

This initiative exemplifies how education institutions can foster partnerships with local communities, offering hope and pathways for students to achieve their dreams. Through such outreach efforts, FNU is making a lasting impact on the lives of students in Fiji, paving a brighter future for generations to come.
