Fiji National University (FNU) has made significant strides in enhancing educational opportunities for students in remote regions, successfully completing an application drive across the Kadavu and Lomaiviti Groups. The outreach initiative aimed to make higher education more accessible to local students, and the response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive.

Semisi Caucau, a teacher at Koro High School, expressed his gratitude towards FNU for their commitment to overcoming geographical barriers. He noted the profound impact of the university’s efforts in assisting students with their applications, which has empowered them to confidently pursue their aspirations. Caucau emphasized the lasting influence FNU’s outreach initiatives have on local communities and expressed hope for future collaborations.

The outreach campaign featured informative sessions at numerous schools, including Vunisea Secondary School, Richmond High School, and Levuka Public School. During these sessions, FNU representatives engaged with Year 12 and Year 13 students, providing insights into the various academic programs available and guiding them through the application process.

Vijayta Sharma, the acting manager of outreach, highlighted the enthusiasm of the students, particularly at Vunisea, where they eagerly sought to explore how FNU’s offerings could align with their career ambitions. The excitement was evident as Year 13 students interacted with the FNU team, eager to learn about opportunities for the upcoming academic year beginning in Semester 1 of 2025.

This initiative not only opened doors to vital academic information but also reinforced the relationship between FNU and the local communities. It reaffirms the university’s ongoing commitment to empowering students and fostering their educational journeys. At Gau Secondary School, students showed their dedication by meeting staff on a Saturday to complete their application forms, a testament to their commitment to planning for their futures.

The outreach campaign concluded at Levuka Public School, where FNU representatives connected with students, addressed their questions, and assisted them in the application process, marking a successful end to the campaign.

This initiative by FNU is a positive reminder of how educational institutions can make a significant impact on communities, bridging gaps and providing pathways for students to achieve their dreams. The proactive approach of FNU sets a commendable example for other institutions looking to reach out and support students in remote areas.

In summary, the outreach effort not only assists students in their educational pursuits but also fosters a spirit of collaboration between the university and local communities, paving the way for a brighter future for aspiring students in Fiji.
