Mick Byrne, the head coach of the Flying Fijians, is set to present a report to the Fiji Rugby Union board this week to assess the team’s recent performances. Rovereto Nayacalevu, the CEO of the Fiji Rugby Union, mentioned that this review is standard practice after each campaign.
Byrne has returned from Australia and will discuss the recent tour with the board. When asked about the board’s satisfaction with the team’s performance, Nayacalevu acknowledged that while the outcome against the All Blacks was disappointing, the victory over Georgia and subsequent improvement in world rankings are positive developments to focus on moving forward.
Nayacalevu also expressed concerns regarding limited player access due to the scheduling of the Barbarians match in Twickenham during the Super Rugby season, which is outside the World Rugby access window. He emphasized that both staff and Byrne have specific key performance indicators (KPIs) outlined in their job descriptions.
Any directives resulting from the review will be provided after Coach Mick’s return to Fiji. Additionally, Nayacalevu confirmed that Eleina McDonald, the manager of the Flying Fijians, has submitted her resignation following the recent tour.
