Flying Fijians Under Review: What’s Next After Recent Tour?

Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne is set to present a report to the Fiji Rugby Union board this week to review the team’s recent performances. FRU CEO Rovereto Nayacalevu stated that this review process is standard practice following each campaign.

Nayacalevu mentioned that Byrne has returned from Australia and will address the board regarding the recent tour. When questioned about the board’s satisfaction with the Flying Fijians’ performance, Nayacalevu acknowledged the disappointing outcome against the All Blacks but highlighted the victory over Georgia and the improvement in their world ranking as positive aspects to build upon.

He pointed out concerns regarding the limited access to players, particularly since the Barbarians game in Twickenham took place during the Super Rugby season and outside of the World Rugby access window. Nayacalevu emphasized that all staff members, including Byrne, have established key performance indicators (KPIs) as part of their roles.

Any directives from the board will come after the review process once Coach Mick returns to the island. In addition, Nayacalevu confirmed that Flying Fijians manager Eleina McDonald has submitted her resignation following the recent tour.
