Former coach Simon Raiwalui and the Fiji Water Flying Fijians received two prestigious awards at the 2023 Fiji Sports Awards held in Suva last night. Raiwalui was named Coach of the Year, while the Flying Fijians were recognized as the Team of the Year.
Raiwalui’s accomplishments included leading Fiji to triumph at the Pacific Nations Cup, achieving a historic victory against England at Twickenham, and securing a win over the Wallabies for the first time in 69 years during the World Cup in France last year. His exceptional coaching also guided the Flying Fijians to reach the quarterfinals of the World Cup after a 16-year gap.
Although Raiwalui was unable to attend the ceremony, the award was accepted on his behalf by FRU administrator Sale Sorovaki. The Flying Fijians were celebrated for their remarkable performances in 2023, which included significant wins over England and the Wallabies.
