Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne is scheduled to report to the Fiji Rugby Union board this week to discuss the team’s recent performances. FRU CEO Rovereto Nayacalevu explained that this meeting is part of the standard procedure where the board evaluates all aspects of performance following each campaign.
“The head coach has returned from Australia and will present his report on the recent tour this week,” Nayacalevu stated. When asked about the board’s satisfaction with the Flying Fijians’ recent results, he responded, “Although the outcome against the All Blacks was disappointing, the victory over Georgia and the subsequent improvement in our world ranking are positives we can build on.”
Nayacalevu also highlighted a concern regarding limited player access, as the Barbarians match in Twickenham occurred during the Super Rugby season and outside the World Rugby access window. “These are two key areas of concern,” he noted.
He affirmed that all staff, including Byrne, have established key performance indicators (KPIs) as part of their job descriptions. “Any directives will be provided after the review process once Coach Mick returns to the island,” Nayacalevu confirmed.
Additionally, Nayacalevu announced that Flying Fijians manager Eleina McDonald has submitted her resignation following the recent tour.
