Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne is set to provide a review of the team’s recent performances to the Fiji Rugby Union board this week. FRU chief executive officer Rovereto Nayacalevu commented that it is standard procedure for the board to evaluate all performance aspects following each campaign.
Byrne, who has just returned from Australia, will discuss the team’s recent tour with the board. When asked about the board’s satisfaction with the Flying Fijians’ recent results, Nayacalevu acknowledged that while the outcome against the All Blacks was disappointing, the victory over Georgia and the subsequent improvement in the team’s world ranking are positive aspects to build upon moving forward.
Nayacalevu also pointed out concerns regarding the limited access to players, noting that the Barbarians match at Twickenham was scheduled during the Super Rugby season, outside the World Rugby access window. He emphasized that both staff, including Byrne, operate under key performance indicators (KPIs) outlined in their job descriptions. Any directives will be given after the review process when Coach Mick returns to the island.
In addition, Nayacalevu confirmed that Flying Fijians manager Eleina McDonald has resigned following the recent tour.
