Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne is set to report to the Fiji Rugby Union board this week to discuss the team’s recent performances. FRU chief executive officer Rovereto Nayacalevu explained that it is standard procedure for the board to review all aspects of performance at the end of each campaign.
Byrne has returned from Australia and will provide insights into the recent tour during this week’s meeting. When asked about the board’s satisfaction with the Flying Fijians’ recent results, Nayacalevu noted that while the outcome against the All Blacks was disappointing, the victory over Georgia and the subsequent improvement in world rankings are positive indicators for the future.
Nayacalevu also mentioned concerns regarding limited access to players, as the Barbarians match in Twickenham took place during the Super Rugby season and outside of the World Rugby access window.
He emphasized that all staff members, including Byrne, have key performance indicators (KPIs) outlined in their job descriptions and that any directives will be made following the review process once Coach Mick is back in the country. Additionally, Nayacalevu confirmed the resignation of Flying Fijians manager Eleina McDonald from the recent tour.
