The head coach of the Fiji Water Flying Fijians, Mick Byrne, is enthusiastic about wrapping up the year positively as the team prepares to compete against Scotland, Spain, and Ireland in a series of Test matches next month.
Byrne’s goal for the November tour is evidently focused on delivering impressive performances against strong Tier 1 teams, particularly as they will be playing on the home grounds of their opponents.
He expressed his anticipation for the upcoming games against these European teams, noting the significance they hold for some of the less experienced players in the squad. “I think it’s an exciting time. We had a good year, finishing the Pacific Nations Cup on a high. The players had a solid rest, and it’s encouraging to see the Northern Hemisphere players performing well last week,” Byrne remarked.
He acknowledged that, despite not facing hostile crowds, the fervent support for the opposing teams helps create an engaging and competitive atmosphere.
With positive momentum heading into the November Tests, Byrne emphasizes the importance of the unity among players and views these matches as a great opportunity to bond as a team and finish the year strongly.
“It’s an exciting time as we come together; we have four thrilling games lined up against Tier 1 nations. It positions us well for preparing for the World Cup in 2027, but more importantly, it allows us to unite and finish the year on a high as a group,” he stated.
The Flying Fijians will kick off their November tour against Scotland at 5:40 AM next Sunday at Murrayfield. Following that, they will play Wales on November 11 at 1:40 AM at Millennium Stadium, face Spain on November 17 at 2 AM at José Zorrilla Stadium, and conclude with a match against Ireland on November 24 at 3:10 AM at Aviva Stadium.
