Flying Fijians Set for Crucial Performance Review

Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne will meet with the board of the Fiji Rugby Union this week to evaluate the team’s recent performances. FRU chief executive officer Rovereto Nayacalevu stated that this review is part of the routine process where the board assesses all aspects of performance after each campaign.

Byrne recently returned from Australia and will report to the board on the recent tour. When asked about the board’s satisfaction with the Flying Fijians’ latest performances, Nayacalevu acknowledged that although the team’s match against the All Blacks did not yield the desired outcome, the victory over Georgia and the improvement in their world ranking provide a foundation for future development.

Nayacalevu pointed out concerns regarding limited player access, as the match against the Barbarians in Twickenham occurred during the Super Rugby season and outside the designated World Rugby access window.

He emphasized that all staff, including Byrne, have specific performance indicators outlined in their job descriptions. Any directives from the board will be issued following the review process once Coach Mick is back in Fiji. Nayacalevu also announced that Flying Fijians manager Eleina McDonald has resigned from her position after the recent tour.
