Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne will meet with the Fiji Rugby Union board this week to discuss the team’s recent performances. FRU CEO Rovereto Nayacalevu confirmed that this is a standard procedure for reviewing performance at the end of each campaign.
Byrne has returned from Australia and will provide an overview of the recent tour. When asked about the board’s satisfaction with the team’s performance, Nayacalevu acknowledged that while the result against the All Blacks was disappointing, the victory over Georgia and the improvement in world rankings are positive aspects to build on.
One area of concern highlighted by Nayacalevu was the limited access to players, particularly because the match against the Barbarians in Twickenham occurred during the Super Rugby season and outside the World Rugby access window. He emphasized that all staff, including Byrne, have set performance indicators that will guide the review process.
Any directives for improvement will be determined after Byrne completes his review upon return to Fiji. Additionally, Nayacalevu confirmed that Flying Fijians manager Eleina McDonald has resigned following the recent tour.
