Manoa Kamikamica, the Deputy Prime Minister of Fiji, has expressed strong optimism regarding the potential of the Flying Fijians rugby team to achieve Tier One status in international rugby. Following their recent victories over Wales and Spain during a European tour, Kamikamica took to social media to commend the team’s progress, suggesting that just a few more years of consistent competition against Tier One nations could elevate Fiji’s status in the rugby world.

Kamikamica remarked on the significance of Fiji’s achievements, noting, “Regardless of the outcome against Ireland next week, the Flying Fijians are on the verge of something great.” He highlighted that the team has shown remarkable depth and versatility by incorporating various players, including those from the Drua Team and those based in Europe. This strategy reflects a bright future for Fiji’s rugby talent.

He expressed a personal reflection, stating he couldn’t remember a time when Fiji scored two consecutive victories on a Northern Hemisphere tour, calling this recent success a notable achievement. “Whatever happens next week, this tour has been a success, and I congratulate coach Mick and all the players,” he added, highlighting the importance of their journey.

The Flying Fijians are now set to face Ireland in their final test of the season at the Aviva Stadium, with the match scheduled for 3:10 AM on Sunday. Kamikamica is hopeful that if the team delivers its best performance, it could lead to a historic outcome.

This positive note indicates a promising path for the Flying Fijians, as they continue to build momentum and showcase their formidable potential on the world stage. The excitement surrounding their future matches underscores the growing confidence in Fijian rugby, hinting at a bright horizon for the sport in the country.
