Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne is set to provide an update to the Fiji Rugby Union board this week regarding the team’s recent performances. FRU chief executive officer Rovereto Nayacalevu mentioned in an interview that this review is a standard procedure conducted at the end of each campaign to assess various performance aspects.
Byrne has returned from Australia and will discuss the recent tour with the board. When asked about the board’s satisfaction with the Flying Fijians’ recent results, Nayacalevu remarked, “Although the outcome against the All Blacks was disappointing, the victory over Georgia and the subsequent improvement in our world ranking are positive points to build upon for the future.”
Nayacalevu pointed out some concerns, particularly the limited access to players during the Barbarians match at Twickenham, which took place during the Super Rugby season and outside of the World Rugby access window. “These are two areas of concern,” he stated.
He also emphasized that all staff members, including Byrne, have established key performance indicators (KPIs) in their job descriptions. “Any directives will be provided after the review process when Coach Mick returns to the island,” he added.
Additionally, Nayacalevu confirmed that Flying Fijians manager Eleina McDonald has submitted her resignation following the recent tour.
