Fiji Water Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne is eagerly anticipating the end of the year, as the team prepares to face Scotland, Wales, and Ireland in a series of Test matches next month.
Byrne’s goal for the November tour is straightforward: to achieve strong performances against these formidable Tier 1 teams, particularly as they will be playing on the opponents’ home territories. He is thrilled about the opportunity these matches represent, especially for some of the newer players in the squad, who will gain invaluable experience.
“It’s an exciting time; we had a good year and finished the Pacific Nations Cup on a high note,” Byrne said. He pointed out that the Northern Hemisphere players had performed well recently, which bodes well for the team.
While he acknowledges that the opposing teams may not have hostile crowds, he notes that the enthusiastic support from local fans creates an engaging atmosphere. Byrne feels optimistic about the team’s positive momentum leading into the November Tests and emphasizes the importance of unity among the players. He views the upcoming games as a fantastic chance to bond as a team and wrap up the year on a high note.
“It’s an exciting time as we come together; we have four thrilling games lined up against Tier 1 nations. It puts us in a good place for preparing for the World Cup in 2027 and, more importantly, to finish the year strongly as a group,” he added.
The Fiji team will kick off their series against Scotland at Murrayfield on Sunday at 5:40 AM, followed by a match against Wales on November 11 at the Millennium Stadium at 1:40 AM. They will then face Spain on November 17 at 2 AM at the José Zorrilla Stadium, with their last Test against Ireland at Aviva Stadium on November 24 at 3:10 AM.
