Flying Fijians Gear Up for PNC Showdown Against Samoa

Defence and discipline are crucial focal points for the Flying Fijians as they prepare to face Samoa in the opening match of the Pacific Nations Cup at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva today. This sentiment was expressed by the team’s captain, Tevita Ikanivere, who emphasized the importance of maintaining focus throughout the match.

The 24-year-old hooker remarked on the need for diligence, stating, “There is a saying that goes only good enough if we do the work.” He also encouraged rugby enthusiasts to come out and support the revamped Flying Fijians squad.

“I’m up for the challenge, and I thank God for choosing me as captain to carry out this work on earth,” Ikanivere said, anticipating a tough battle against Samoa. He acknowledged the youthfulness of his team but noted that many players exhibit leadership qualities, easing his responsibilities both on and off the pitch.

Following two demanding training sessions, Ikanivere confirmed that the team is focused on securing their first win in the Pacific Nations Cup, with the match set to start at 6pm.
