Defence and discipline are crucial focus areas for the Flying Fijians as they prepare to face Samoa in the opening match of the Pacific Nations Cup at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva today. This emphasis was expressed by the Flying Fijians’ captain, Tevita Ikanivere.
The 24-year-old hooker stated that maintaining concentration for the entire duration of the game is essential. “There is a saying that goes only good enough if we do the work,” he remarked.
Ikanivere encouraged rugby fans to come and support the revamped Flying Fijians squad. “I’m ready for the challenge, and I thank God for choosing me as captain to fulfill this role,” he added.
He anticipates a challenging game against Samoa, noting that while the team is youthful, it boasts several leaders, which simplifies his responsibilities both on and off the field as everyone takes accountability.
Following two demanding training sessions, Ikanivere shared that the team is eager to secure a victory in their first match of the Pacific Nations Cup. The match is set to kick off at 6 PM.
