The upcoming November Test matches are a crucial part of the Fiji Water Flying Fijians’ preparations for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. This sentiment was expressed by the team’s head coach, Mick Byrne, during an interview before the squad departed the country yesterday.
Byrne noted that the current lineup features several seasoned players nearing the end of their careers, some of whom have participated in three World Cups. He emphasized the importance of honoring their legacy and highlighted the opportunity to bring in new talent as part of the build-up to the 2027 tournament.
“We finished the Pacific Nations Cup on a positive note, and it would be ideal to conclude the year on a high as well,” said Byrne.
The Flying Fijians will engage in four Test matches as part of their international program, with three of the matches against Six Nations teams: Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. Byrne mentioned that the Europe-based players performed well in their recent games, while the locally based players from the Fijian Drua team have been actively involved in off-season training.
The Flying Fijians kick off their tour with a match against Scotland at Murrayfield on November 3. This will be followed by a game against Wales in Cardiff on November 10. They will then face Spain on November 17, before concluding their tour against Ireland in Dublin on November 24.
Additionally, Scotland Rugby has announced that tickets for the Scotland-Fiji Test match are sold out.
