The November Test matches are a crucial part of the Fiji Water Flying Fijians’ preparations for the upcoming 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. This sentiment was expressed by Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne during an interview prior to the team’s departure from the country.
Byrne noted that the current roster includes several seasoned players nearing the end of their careers, many of whom have participated in three World Cups. “Their legacy should be upheld in this regard,” he remarked. He emphasized that now is an opportune moment to integrate new talent, aligning with their preparation strategies for the 2027 World Cup.
Having concluded the Pacific Nations Cup (PNC) on a positive note, Byrne highlighted the importance of maintaining that momentum as the year wraps up. The upcoming international program includes four Test matches, three of which will be against Six Nations teams: Scotland, Wales, and Ireland.
Byrne praised the performances of Europe-based players from the previous weekend and mentioned the local-based players from the Fijian Drua squad, who have been actively engaged in off-season training.
The Flying Fijians are set to kick off their tour with a Test match against Scotland at Murrayfield on November 3. They will then head to Cardiff to compete against Wales on November 10, followed by a match against Spain on November 17, and concluding with a final Test against Ireland in Dublin on November 24.
In related news, Scotland Rugby has announced that tickets for the Scotland-Fiji Test match have sold out.
