Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne is set to present an evaluation of the team’s recent performances to the Fiji Rugby Union board this week. FRU CEO Rovereto Nayacalevu stated that it is standard procedure for the board to review all aspects of performance following each campaign.
Byrne has just returned from Australia and will provide insights regarding the recent tour. In response to whether the board was pleased with the Flying Fijians’ latest results, Nayacalevu acknowledged that while the outcome against the All Blacks was disappointing, the victory over Georgia and the subsequent improvement in their world ranking are positive developments to build upon.
Nayacalevu highlighted concerns regarding limited access to players due to the timing of the Barbarians game in Twickenham, which coincided with the Super Rugby season and occurred outside of the World Rugby access window.
He confirmed that all staff, including Byrne, have established key performance indicators (KPIs) in their job descriptions and noted that any directives would follow the review process when Coach Mick returns to Fiji. Additionally, it was announced that Flying Fijians manager Eleina McDonald has submitted her resignation after the recent tour.
