Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne is set to report to the Fiji Rugby Union board this week to evaluate the team’s recent performances. Rovereto Nayacalevu, the FRU’s chief executive officer, mentioned that it is standard procedure for the board to review all aspects of performance following each campaign.
Byrne has just returned from Australia and will discuss the recent tour with the board. When asked about the board’s thoughts on the Flying Fijians’ performance, Nayacalevu acknowledged that, although the outcome against the All Blacks was disappointing, the victory against Georgia and the subsequent improvement in world rankings are positive points to build on.
Nayacalevu indicated that a significant area of concern is the limited access to players due to the Barbarians match at Twickenham being scheduled during the Super Rugby season, which falls outside of the World Rugby access window. He emphasized that these issues will be taken into account.
He also noted that all staff, including Byrne, have specific key performance indicators (KPIs) set in their job descriptions. Nayacalevu stated that directives will be provided following the review process once Coach Mick is back in Fiji. Additionally, he confirmed that Flying Fijians manager Eleina McDonald has submitted her resignation following the recent tour.
