Flying Fijians Captain Demands Accountability Amid FRU Silence

Waisea Nayacalevu, captain of the Flying Fijians for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, has expressed that they have not yet received any communication from the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU). This statement comes in the wake of an ongoing impasse triggered by allegations of mismanagement within the FRU, which surfaced over a week ago.

Nayacalevu revealed in a live podcast with social media blogger Lesi Vanuavou that he reached out to FRU Trust Board Chairman Peter Mazey, who had initially agreed to arrange a meeting with senior players. However, Nayacalevu stated that Mazey became unavailable at the last minute, and since then, no one from the FRU has contacted the players.

“We need to talk and iron out the issues,” Nayacalevu emphasized, adding that it is crucial for the organization to ensure accountability and a thorough cleanup. He also mentioned that emails had been sent to the FRU concerning outstanding salaries for matches played earlier this year against teams such as the Barbarians, Georgia, and the All Blacks.
